18 Feb Sustainability in the Plastics Industry
Sustainability has been a key talking point recently in the plastics industry, at last years K2019 industry trade show, it was discussed more than ever. The show featured booths, workshops, and presentations focusing on current innovations in the plastics industry that will help to pave a path for sustainability in the future. Global materials company Trinseo, a partner of ours, was well prepared to showcase their commitment to keeping up with the sustainability movement. Trinseo is “Rethinking Sustainability” by internalizing their understanding of the challenges faced in the industry: merging public opinion, brand owner commitment, multinationals, and regulatory pressure in a constantly evolving environment, and addressing them in new and innovative ways. This unique approach requires Trinseo and the rest of the plastics industry to step out of their comfort zones and start to develop long term approaches for improving and maintaining sustainability in the plastics industry. To do this there will need to be a drive to look outside the typical and traditional business models in order to develop a circular economy where resources are able to be kept in use for as long as possible to gain the highest amount of potential value and then recover and regenerate materials at the end of the cycle.
